5 Reasons to Adopt a Junior Frenchie

It’s no surprise that the majority of future Frenchie parents dream of welcoming a young, tiny fur baby into their lives. However, many don’t know that there’s a whole world of rewards that come with adopting a slightly older pup. In this article, we’ll explore five reasons why choosing one of our junior Frenchies could be a surprisingly fulfilling experience. From maturity and training advantages, we’ll uncover the benefits of adopting a junior Frenchie that you may not have thought of.

What Is a “Junior Frenchie”?

Our Junior Frenchies are French Bulldog puppies who are between 4 to 8 months old: an age when they’re no longer tiny pups but not quite adults either. At this stage, they’re like the teenagers of the dog world: full of life and energy, yet more mature and adaptable compared to their younger counterparts.

Our juniors were born on the TomKings farms in Europe and can travel to the United States once they reach 6 months of age, allowing them to spend more time in our dedicated care. This extended period with us ensures they receive the highest level of socialization and training, offering significant benefits to their future families, as you will discover in this article.

5+1 Reasons to Adopt a Junior Frenchie

Now that you know what junior Frenchies are, it’s time to explore why choosing one of these slightly older pups can be a fantastic decision. Here are 5+1 solid reasons why you should consider giving a loving home to a junior Frenchie!

1. Junior Puppies Are More Mature and Trainable

One significant advantage of adopting a Junior Frenchie is their level of maturity. By the time they reach 4-6 months of age, they’ve grown past the early puppy stage. Unlike younger puppies, these juniors are more focused and capable of understanding basic commands. Their increased maturity means they’re ready to learn and eager to please, making the training process smoother and more efficient.

Since we’re with them all day long, they quickly grasp the concept of rules and expectations, ensuring a harmonious transition into your home. Additionally, upon request, we can provide personalized training for your junior Frenchie, teaching them specific commands and even their name. This way, when the time comes, they will fit seamlessly into your lifestyle. If you’re a first-time Frenchie parent, this may be a huge benefit!

Here’s what two of our TomKings Frenchie parents have shared about their experience adopting a junior Frenchie:

“OMG! My first TKK Frenchie was a Junior! He is the absolute LOVE of my life too! He is the best boy ever! He was the easiest to train and continues to do things quicker than the other boys! Plus, he has the best temperament and could care less if one of my other guys takes his toy away, he just walks away and finds a different one. Oh I’m sure I forgot to mention how lucky I was to find him! If I could clone him, I’d have a house full!”  (Vicki)

“If this will be your first french bulldog I suggest getting a teenage dog at first. My first french bulldog from TKK was an older dog training was so much easier.”  (Chantay)

2. Potty Training Is Much Easier for Junior Frenchies

Potty training a puppy can be a demanding task, but junior Frenchies simplify the process to a great deal. The main reason is that these puppies can hold their bladder for longer periods compared to younger pups. They also eat less frequently during the day, typically just twice instead of three times, which naturally means they’ll have fewer potty breaks. Say goodbye to sleepless nights and frequent trips to the backyard!

Moreover, we’ve already laid a strong foundation for potty training during their time on our farms, making your job much more manageable. While every dog is unique and may become house-trained at their own pace, most of our juniors come already house-trained. You’ll find that your junior Frenchie quickly adapts to your home and routine, reducing the stress and effort typically associated with housebreaking.

Ultimate Guide
to Adopting a Frenchie

“I love juniors. Puppies are hard. Cute but hard. I prefer a house broken Junior.”  (Faith)

“I want to say that it has been the most beautiful experience getting an older pup. Beauregard (Kellan) came to us a few days before he turned 7 months old, and I may never get another dog at 3 months ever again. Beau has the absolute best personality, and he is just so joyful. He has had accidents in the house, but not a lot, and he is so intelligent. He understands where to go potty and even scratches at the door, and it’s only been a week. Our vet also told us that older puppies are the BEST! No crying at night and taking them out all through the night to go potty.”  (Amber)

“I just posted about our junior pup’s first birthday a few days ago… she’s the best last minute decision I’ve ever made in life! Bea (formerly Beatrice) essentially finished house training the younger pups for us (we got three at once), she’s also passed down all of the other excellent behavior skills she already had by the time she arrived. For those wondering what a Junior looks like size wise in comparison to younger puppies, you really won’t notice a difference, she weighed 3-5 lbs more than the others and simply looked like a larger puppy in the mix. Otherwise, she’s also bonded w us on some levels even stronger than the other pups have – can’t recommend Junior puppies enough, if you’re hesitating, don’t! They’re just as priceless as their younger TKK counterparts“ – Cheryl

3. No Vacation Days Needed

Unlike very young puppies, junior Frenchies do not require new owners to take extended leave from work to settle them into their forever homes. Their increased maturity means they adapt more quickly and require less intensive care. These junior pups are already accustomed to a structured routine, making the transition smoother and less time-consuming. This allows you to enjoy the joy of welcoming a new Frenchie into your home without the need to rearrange your entire schedule or take time off work.

4. Junior Puppies Chew Much Less

Chewing is a common behavior in puppies, and it can sometimes lead to a fair share of chewed shoes and furniture. The good news is that by the time a Frenchie reaches the junior age, they’ve typically outgrown the worst of their chewing habits. This means fewer worries about your belongings and less stress for you. It’s a win-win situation for both you and your furniture.

5. Junior Puppies Have a Stronger Immune System

Health is a top concern for any pet owner, and junior Frenchies have an edge in this department. Spending more time with their littermates allows them to develop stronger immune systems, making them more resistant to illnesses. They engage in plenty of playtime and physical activities with their peers, which also contributes to healthier and more robust muscles. When you adopt a junior Frenchie, you’re bringing home a pup with a strong foundation for a healthy life.

5+1 Junior Puppies Have an Established Personality

Junior Frenchies have more developed personalities, making it easier to determine if they are a good fit for your family’s lifestyle and needs. By the time they reach junior age, their temperaments are more established, allowing you to better understand their behavior and preferences. Bonding with a junior Frenchie can also be quicker, as they have had more time to socialize with humans, offering instant companionship.
