Whenever we are planning a family vacation, people ask what do we do with our Frenchies? Are we going to leave them at a friend’s place or at a pet hotel? But our answer is always surprising: we take them with us! They also deserve some climate change, don’t you think? Luckily, many places are getting more and more pet-friendly, including hotels, restaurants, bars, and other public areas. This makes the owners’ lives much easier, as we wouldn’t need to worry about leaving our four-legged friend in a hotel room. In this article, we collected our top 5 favorite places to visit with a French bulldog across the US. The list isn’t complete at all, so feel free to add your favorite place!

Toggle#1 Key West, Florida
We can agree that Key West is the ultimate place where you can enjoy the summer with your pooch. The island is full of dog-friendly accommodations, restaurants, and bars. You can enjoy your amazing Caribbean meal with your Frenchie on your side at over a hundred places! If you feel like spending some time off-leash at the beach, you can visit the Higgs Beach Dog Park or the Key West Dog Beach. And if you prefer a more adventurous activity, you can rent a kayak, and paddle around the islands with your Frenchie! Just remember: he must always have his life jacket on, as Frenchies cannot swim.

#2 San Diego, California
On the west coast, San Diego is a perfect travel destination with a Frenchie. It has three dog beaches that offer an all-year leash-free fun for the whole family, and several other on-leash spots can be found along the shores. You can even try surfing with your pup! Once you get tired, stop for a meal at Ocean Beach, where you’ll find more than 30 pet-friendly restaurants. You can also find great pet-friendly hiking spaces all over San Diego, like the Sunset Cliffs Natural Park, the Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve, or the Batiquitos Lagoon. If you are flying to California, don’t forget to get a comfortable dog carrier for your baby!
#3 Bozeman, Montana
Did you know that Bozeman in Montana is one of the most dog-friendly cities in the United States? No matter where you head in this city, you will find that dogs outnumber humans! The Rocky Mountain destination is an outdoor lover’s paradise and a great place to take your French bulldog. The place is surrounded by six mountain ranges and ten prominent rivers and lakes. Your Frenchie can run for miles without inhibition, and swim in fresh, cool waters. It’s the perfect playground! Here’s a list of outdoor games that are not only fun for both of you, but also develop your Frenchie’s skills!
#4 Asheville, North Carolina
Another great destination in the South Atlantic region is Asheville. Its walkable downtown, dog-friendly restaurant patios, and breweries make it easy to get around with your Frenchie during your holiday. Book your stay at the Aloft Hotel, where each pooch gets his own doggie bed, water bowl, and access to a rooftop dog run without a pet fee! Asheville is the hometown of the world’s first full-functioning bakery exclusively for dogs, the Three Dog Bakery. They offer a wide variety of freshly baked treats that will have your Frenchie drooling from the moment he walks through the door. If you are a hiking enthusiast, Asheville will be heaven for you. With more than 1,600 miles of trails to explore, you and your dog could literally spend weeks meandering through the Blue Ridge Mountains and creating your own adventures. Be aware that your Frenchie must be on leash on these trails. If you need some advice on effective leash training, read this article!

#5 Austin, Texas
Austin is a VERY pet-friendly city where you can find numerous things to do. If your stay is downtown, go for a fun walk at Lady Bird Lake and enjoy this river-like reservoir! You can shop at the local Barton Creek Farmers Market, and after that, eat on 2nd Street, where all restaurants with patios and many of the stores are pet-friendly! If you want to get out of the big city life, it won’t take long to reach the wide-open country and go on a dog-friendly hike at Barton Creek Greenbelt. As it can get pretty hot in Austin, we recommend you to get a cooling vest for your babe before you go out.
