How to take care of your French Bulldog in self-isolation

As we said in our previous article, there’s no evidence that dogs can be infected with COVID19. But as we are in a lockdown with our sweeties, we have to take certain steps to make sure they stay safe and are looked after, no matter what happens. We not only list these precautions but also give you a few tips on how to have fun and use isolation positively.

Think of your Frenchie when piling up supplies

When thinking a few weeks ahead with supplies, think of your Frenchie. Have enough food, puppy toiletries, toys, medication. Even if you can order these from webshops you might have to count with longer delivery periods, so better to be prepared. If your puppy is very young, think ahead, what he or she might need a month later.

Planning for the unexpected

Planning for the worst means that you can only have a pleasant surprise. In case you fall ill in the pandemic, have someone who can take care of your little darling. Ideally, you should be isolated from him or her – as well as from the rest of the family members. Even if – to our current knowledge – you can’t infect your baby, we don’t know enough about the virus, and it’s better to stay on the safe side.

What happens if your Frenchie is sick

If you notice that your puppy is unwell, don’t rush to the vet, but first, ask your breeder. We receive a lot of questions that can be easily answered without having to visit the vet (and we’ll tell you when you need to do that). In this case, call them first, they might not be open at the regular opening hours and might operate an emergency system. The best idea is to ask in advance where and how you reach your vet in case you need them.

Stay active with your Frenchie

The above precautions don’t mean you should be panicking in your home and never move outside. In fact, we encourage you to stay active: you can always walk your puppy in the park if you avoid other people and pets, or at least you can play with him or her in your garden. (Always follow the latest government directives though.) It’s also a great opportunity to spend more time with their training in this period. Don’t change the rules

Make sure you follow all those rules of raising a puppy you previously set. Your baby still needs his or her regular routine, and just because you’re quarantined it doesn’t mean he or she doesn’t have to respect the rules you earlier established. In these challenging times, our furbaby can give us so much joy and consolation, but spoiling them now can give us hard times later.
